Rajdulari – A mission to spead her music

We caught up again with Rajdulari, Soul and Jazz, artist and she told us about her music career…

Tell us about your background- what made you decide to be an artist? I’ve loved music since before I was born. We’ve always had music in the house, my mother was a choir director, my grandfather was a pastor, and my aunt and uncle ran a radio station, so music was always flowing freely in my house. I don’t think I chose to be a musicians, it chose me. It was something that just took a hold and wouldn’t let me go, I love it. I’ve been singing professionally since I was 17.

We love the title ‘Journey of a woman’ – what have been the highlights of your journey? And the low points? The highlights have been traveling the world and seeing people singing my songs and responding to the message. There’s no better feeling than that! And the low points, eh, I think as an Independent Artist, to face a series of challenges: you have to invest a great deal of money into your dream, but in the end it reaps great rewards so I can’t complain.

What advice do you have for other black women on their own ‘journeys’? NEVER GIVE UP! It doesn’t matter how old you are, or how many “no’s” you get. If you know for a fact that this is your purpose and destiny, keep going until that dream is fulfilled and NEVER take no for an answer! No one ever regrets taking chances on their dreams, but you’ll always regret it if you never gave it a try.

Your name is unusual – is this a stage name or a name with ‘deep’ meaning? I think all names have deep meanings, mine is my name ‘Rajdulari’. It is Hindi and it means “Daughter of a King”.

What are your hopes and dreams for your career in the future? Can we expect to enjoy the same style of music from you in the future? My dream is to continue traveling the world and spreading the word about the music. I will keep going until my voice is heard and until I can find a measure of success and support my team, my musicians and my family on my music alone.  I don’t ever want to be put into a box, so I wouldn’t say you can expect the same style of music from me every time. I like to change my sound. One day it’s Jazz, the next day it’s Soul, then it’s Gospel. It’s complex, but it’ll always be my story and my Journey, no matter what.
