Dear Black women – Which pressure are you under?

Pressure – a word that makes me want to stop. Because it just brings with it – Pressure! It creates those thoughts and feelings of never being able to stop – stop working, stop running the house, stop being there for everyone else. Stop looking over our shoulders for the micro-aggressions and the racism.
The other pressures to succeed, to find and have love. That pressure that if we don’t achieve Black Excellence, then our efforts are a waste of time.
But this Sunday, I was thinking about the Bible verse- “Christ came that we “might have life and have it more abundantly” John 10:10
How do I deal with the pressure?
So I’ve recently been using this verse to help me when I feel any of these pressures. How do I apply this Bible verse when life is feeling so heavy? I do the following:
- When the job deadlines are so pressing and I think I won’t complete things on time – I say those words “Christ came…”.
- I take a look at my progress (on the task or project) and take a break (walk or exercise) to deal with the feelings of overwhelm because of the ‘abundance’ that Christ Jesus has for me.
- When I worry that Afrowoman Online content may not be useful or helping black women, maybe I’m wasting my time – I say “Christ came.…”. I look at what I’m doing that aligns with my God Blessed skills and purpose. Taking one step at a time to continue.
I hope you’ll take these examples away with you and know that when the pressure gets too much, you also have an abundant life waiting for you.
